The Pinion E-Drive System combines a powerful electric motor, proven gearbox technology and electronic gear shifting to form a perfectly coordinated package. The benefits: low maintenance, no significant wear and efficient shifting performance. For optimum weight distribution, the motor gear unit sits well protected directly above the bottom bracket. The rear wheel remains lightweight and stable without a cassette and rear derailleur; the suspension moves more freely. In terms of riding, this means: agility, comfort and excellent traction even at high speeds.

The motor gear unit

Combining what really belongs together: the Pinion E-Drive System consists of a powerful mid-mounted motor and electronic 12-speed gears. This unit sits above the bottom bracket in a seamlessly coordinated manner and is in no way inferior to conventional drivetrains in terms of size and weight. Internal sensors continuously measure motor speed, input torque, bike speed, pedalling rate and gearshift lever shaft and crank arm position for the most natural riding experience possible. Apart from a quick oil change after 10,000 kilometres, the drive is maintenance-free: no gears that need to be adjusted, no drivetrain to be cleaned and components that are reliably protected from water and dirt.

The barely noticeable shifting process takes place in fractions of a second – even at full load and when stationary. This is ensured by the electronic switching system with high-resolution torque, cadence (pedalling rate) sensors, and fine gearing. The bike automatically adapts motor assistance to the gear and detects when it needs to shift: precisely, quickly and fully automatically, depending on the setting selected. Regardless of external influences, the gears do not wear out or become misaligned. Based on automotive gearbox technology, Pinion uses spur gear teeth with two gear sets connected in tandem. Its unsurpassed bandwidth of 600% and gear ratio result from the two coordinated partial gearboxes with different gear pairs.

The Pinion E-Drive System offers four levels of assistance: ECO is designed for maximum range, while FLY fully utilises the massive power of the system at all times. FLOW and FLEX stages progressively adjust the level of assistance to the riding situation and terrain. A sensitive start-up aid and an extra boost at the touch of a button complete the package.

The displays

To control the E-Drive System, Pinion uses displays that stand out with their modular approach, slimline design and ease of reading. They can be used to control, manage, and display a wide variety of functions. All information can be adapted to the individual screen size, and gear-shifting recommendations and settings are also fully integrated. The remote control units with illuminated buttons optionally provide tactile feedback, which increases in intensity with the speed.

Keep an eye on all the important information with the compact and attractive Remote display. This combination of control unit and high-resolution colour display can be intuitively operated without taking your hand off the handlebars. Your riding data can easily be read in all weather on the large Comfort display. And, thanks to its Bluetooth connectivity, you also have many additional functions available. Choose between permanent installation with a locking screw or a removable Comfort display. It is simple and reliable to control using the remote in thumb’s reach.

The Multi-adapter lets you extend the compact Remote display with your smartphone, combining all functions in one place: smart navigation with live weather, fitness data and much more. Other services and apps, such as music playback, can be controlled at the same time. A matching SP Connect smartphone case or bracket is available separately, as are further attachments for a bike computer.
